FAQ

  • Unapologetically.

TELOS is rigorous about academics and intentional about magnifying Christ. In each subject, we strive to present the parallels between academics, scripture, and our Christian worldview. [Statement of Faith]

  • Yes. TELOS provides a classical education based on language-focused learning and an emphasis on the logical and rhetorical stages of the Trivium. However, we are not constrained by the term and we offer select subjects that are not classical by definition.

Why? After strictly adhering to the classical model and sending our oldest son to college, we quickly learned that his education was excellent, but his college preparation was incomplete. That is why we offer classes like culinary arts, basic accounting, emergency preparedness, and college-facing subjects like study skills, productivity, information management, and how to estimate the level of effort for given assignments. We believe our students will be better prepared to thrive in college after acquiring these essential life skills and strategies.

  • We have noticed that homeschooled and classical students tend to be very good in the liberal arts, but many are underprepared in math and science.

To address this, we hire teachers with backgrounds in chemistry, physics, mathematics, and biology to teach those classes. Consequently, we are confident that TELOS students will fare well in all areas of pre-college testing, not just the liberal arts.

  • Because of atmosphere. Many of our parents enroll their students in TELOS because of the quality of the students and the community that develops. We intentionally try to create an environment where friendships and education flourish and this is much more natural in a home setting. It also allows us to utilize the kitchen for culinary arts.

  • There are several reasons.

First, TELOS is challenging. The fourth week has lighter homework and gives the students a chance to catch their breath. Our goal is to challenge the students, but not to overwhelm them.

Second, the week off gives families a chance to travel and students a chance to pursue hobbies, sports, or side businesses.

Finally, it improves morale! No matter where you are in the school year, you’re never more than two weeks away from a break!

  • Disruptions are handled on a case-by-case basis, but continuous disruption violates the Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook and it is taken very seriously.

No student will be allowed to interfere with teaching or learning and continued disruption is grounds for expulsion.

  • Depending on the subject, the student-teacher ratio is between 1:5 and 1:20. With larger classes, an intern will be available to help.

  • TELOS Academy is for full-time students. It is a full curriculum with 8 core classes plus worship, culinary arts, and P.E. It also includes field trips, special speakers, social activities and more.

TELOS A La Carte is an opportunity for students to take up to two classes offered by TELOS Academy.

  • Because fathers have an inordinate influence in the lives of their children - especially teens. Being there once a section allows the father to know what’s been taught, follow up on matters of worldview and support the effort and progress of his student. It also lets them get to know the other fathers, which makes camping and other activities much more fun.
